****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

That wood stove looks so good & toasty right now. Great info. I used the 30 yr professional woven landscaping fabric found at Menards for ground cover with success for several years. Anything to weed less! I think your fabric is much thicker. I don't have a torch so I just cut an X where I plant smaller transplants, but tomatoes I cut a big circle so I can make a foot wide watering well for each video. I bought my first packets of seeds, getting so excited! Thanks for another great video.

Kevin and Sarah, you’ve convinced me to use the weed barrier, but I have a question. Our garden is on a slope, a very slight slope, but nonetheless a slope. Should we lay the weed barrier parallel to the slope or perpendicular to it?

Hi guys. Been watching your channel since I was in the city waiting to get out. I am finally out! Last summer was the first summer I grew my own garden. Back to eden. It was HELL! I tried cardboard and then plastic and it was all a mess! So I live in Kemptville Ontario Canada and to order the ground cover from growers solutions I would have to pay exchange and delivery. I found the exact Dewitt product on amazon.ca. Please tell me if this is a comparable price..... $165 for 3 feet by 300 feet wide. Also there was one review that said make sure you burn the ends or it will all fray. But I sometimes don’t want to rely on reviews made so did you guys burn the ends or was it fine.

Not sure about that price as because of the difference in currency but what I can tell you is this. If you can afford it....GET IT!!! It has made our lives so much easier. As far as the burning, yes we do. The only way we cut the ground cover is with a butane torch. Works great and cuts and seals all at once. Congrats on escaping the city! - Kevin

Have you guys purchased eye protection for your new LED lights yet. They ARE eyesight threatening without protection. Maybe that is why you have the black curtain tho. Simply turning off the lights while working on the plants works. My dad has the grow lights... and the proper eye protection.

Thank you so much for your videos. About 3 years ago I saw your videos about the woven weed fabric when I was researching it. Because of those videos I've been watching every video since. I agree with you that they are IMO the way to go. I live in NE Tennessee. It makes weeding the garden a few minute job instead of a few hours. Also, I have noticed that the ground stays more moist underneath the fabric, thus reducing the amount of water you may need to use. I highly recommend it as well. Although I use the 12' wide roll.

in the north (Denmark) (we have down to -20 degrees right now) we mostly use straw for pigs, (especially those in the open air) they get a lot into their barn and then they make their own bed where the kids can lie warm and safe, for both cold and wind. wind is the worst for small new kids so if you have it it's great to lie down a lot of straw in, and then remove the lamp, then mother will probably have to take care of the bed and heat ❤️ and it's so great to see a pig make his own bed 😂😂😂

It is VERY WINDY here and my garden is big enough that I would need a ton of rocks or bricks (which we've used in the past and hated) to anchor the row cover, so....we have adapted this idea. This takes a lot of time (good winter project) so I'm not necessarily suggesting you do it, but here's what I did. I have made netting covers from a variety of things (tulle, broken soft-top gazebo (and used the solid parts as shade cover over my small green house), sheer curtain remnants) and sewed or crocheted loops around the outside edge. I used up crochet cotton from an abandoned project on my first project and then I bought twisted cotton twine for the rest of them. We bought a bunch of plant supports from Dollarama to hold the covers above the plants and poke their bottom ends through the loops and then into the ground on the outside of the raised beds. When we need to harvest or weed we just slide the loop up and clip it in place so we can reach inside. Worked wonders; we had the best garden ever last year!

I have been growing under grow lights for a while. I used a PAR meter under each type of light brand to get the distance correct. 10"-14" is the common distances I have found with my brands. Meters are expensive, the grower supply store here has one and tested it on the spot for free. Also I use a pair of special sunglasses around the brighter lights while I'm working under them. Wattage is also important, seed starting uses lower wattage. You don't want to use a high output light to start seeds, if you do watch the distance. Good luck, Love my lights, Got 27 pinto bean plants growing in my house under light for the last month. Tomato's and peppers are starting now. We grow a lot of food under grow lights. God Bless

I have 2 issues to address before growing season this year. I need to ammend my soil and I need to figure out something for the giant hailstorm that will inevitably come every year. Farming/ranching/gardening works well for some depending which ZONE you are in. Go with works for EACH ZONE. I'm at 6B. What works outstanding here for me in the extreme western part of the state of Virginia will fail miserably in Alaska and vice-versa. Find out which zone you are in and work accordingly from that info.

Mine do not. I have to cover the Cole crops against white cabbage butterfly and ive used everything from tulle to floating row covers. They do beautiful and they dont require pollination for their veggie formation you only have to check here and there under it. Its wonderful to not have little green wormy float to the top of the veggies in the pan cooking broccoli. Cuz you can soak broccoli in salt water to remove worms but they hide well. 🐛🐛🥦🥦
