****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

With the blueberries you need a second plant of a different variety so may cross pollinate. I put a bit of sulpher in the hole when plant our soil isn't acidic enough I was told. Worked cuz I am getting nearly 10 gallons of berries between two bushes. Or I should say when I can keep the critters off em dog and chickens, yeah I got the berriest eatin dog you ever saw.

Thank you so much 😍 We grew Sweet Potatoes one time years ago but we had voles get into them and since I was the only one eating them didn't really try again...But I think I love the idea of growing slips in jars in the house this year. We used to do that with Avocado seed when I was a kid & then with our was so fun 😍

You are truly Godly people and I am honored to bring you into my Prayers. My Grandfather was a full time farmer and I can remember the milk cow barn with the hayloft on top. The chicken house where I collected the eggs and at the end was a taller building that housed the mule. I have had opportunities fall thru my finger at the chance to live the life I loved, but due to back problems, I lost my dream of self survival. You give all of us that feeling when we watch you tackle each and every task required of both of you. Please know you are both wonderful people in our eyes, but most importantly, GODS EYES. Bless you and your family.

Before I planted bare root strawberry plants into the garden, I used to soak them in seaweed/kelp extract mixed in water. I was amazed to see tiny roots starting to shoot out after 24 hours! It gave them a great start. Just make sure you get liquid seaweed that is fresh for this year - it loses its value after that.

Love how you jump through hoops to make sure your animals are well cared for during this difficult time. I hope that people who think eating meat is horrible will check out farms such as yours and buy from them. The animals are treated right and well cared for. Factory farms are terrible, yes, but small farms like yours do things right. I don’t raise any livestock, but I try to buy as much of my meat from small farms locally as I can.

I should have those rubber pans for chicken waterers. I have to carry my 6 watering containers(plastic) inside to thaw and replace with 6 already thawed. Do this at 7, noon, and 5ish each day. Takes a lot of time but I want them to have water 3 times a day. Of course, as I am writing this, on Monday, the 15th, the high today was 5 degrees on my thermometer. Morning water has frozen solid well before noon. Plastic water containers crack or shatter at these temps so they have to be handled carefully. Like the way you can just dump the rubber on the ground upside down and the ice falls out.

Lol! WOW! Single digits! Holy hell! Lil I birthed my lambs, it was thirty- five below air temp. Dried them , and put the back out. Kept and eye on them. Nature adjusts. If a horse , sheep, goat or whatever is born in the season , they are equipped with a coat. Just make sure they are dry especially in areas like ears and feet. I used to use my horse trailer as a nursery , hanging heat lights, and it would cut the temps to - 15 , which isn't bad. Now we had - 65 below temps and everything made it through . Just make sure they are fed well and watered well . I never lost an animal nor ears to cold yet . I have been raising livestock for thirty four years . I WISH I could live where you do and have nicer temps. My main complaint is the ice buckets or the automatic waterer freezing.

I save about 6 medium sized sweet potatoes each year for the following spring. I simply place them in an 8” plant pot, and set that pot on top of my fridge. Those spuds generally produce 10 slips each. I simply break the slip off the potato, take off all the tiny leaves except the one at the top, dip the broken end in some rooting hormone and plant the slip in a 4” pot. Takes 2-3 days for the slip to start showing growth. The soil must stay saturated with water until the new growth comes. I do this the first week in Feb to plant out first week in May. Works like a charm been doing it this way for years, from my first original purchase of 6 plants.
